Vuchetich, Evgenij Viktorovich. (1908-1974) "Let us beat swords into ploughshares," 1959Soviet era aluminum metal sculpture, 9 3 4 x 7 1 2 x 3 1 2 in. Signed and inscribed in cyrillic, representing the figure of a man holding a hammer in one hand and, in the other, a sword which he is making into a plough share, symbolizing man's desire to put an end to war and convert the means of destruction into creative tools for the benefit of all mankind. A large bronze of this subject by Vuchetich is preserved at the United Nations, New York.
